AS used the headline ‘Failure’ to describe the loss to United, which came from the back of a group stage exit in the Champions League.
Meanwhile, L’Esportiu were less critical with their headline: ‘Not yet’, but they highlighted Manchester United’s ‘greater resources’ in the second-half.
Barcelona took the lead after 18 minutes when Robert Lewandowski scored a penalty after Alejandro Balde was brought down in the box by Bruno Fernandes.
But Erik ten Hag’s side fought back strongly and won the tie through second-half goals by Brazilian duo Fred and Antony.
In the aftermath, Xavi admitted his side couldn’t cope with United’s intensity following a poor first half display.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the former midfielder said: ‘United were very intense in that second half.
‘They are in very good form at the moment and are very good at home. It is those fine details that made all the difference.’
Barcelona will seek to return to winning ways when they travel to Almeria on Sunday before taking on fierce rivals Real Madrid in Copa del Rey on Thursday.
