Southend rinsed for naming ‘official turmeric sponsor’ after Rose West blunder

Southend United have been rinsed for announcing an "official turmeric supplier" a day after their Rose West blunder.

The club made headlines earlier this week after they unwittingly named one of their stands after serial killer Rose West after signing a sponsorship deal with a local business. Now, fans have mocked the National League side again after Thursday's announcement that The Turmeric Co. are the club's "official turmeric supplier".

In an official statement, the club confirmed the sponsorship: “Southend United Football Club are delighted to welcome The Turmeric Co. on board for the 2022/23 season as its Official Turmeric Supplier.

“Founded by former Blue Thomas Hal Robson-Kanu, The Turmeric Co. offers unique turmeric-based shots, developed for over 15 years to aid fatigue, support immunity and enhance performance.

“Blues fans will also be able to take advantage of The Turmeric Co.’s products, with a 30% discount on online orders using the code SEU30.”

Fans were quick to mock Southend on social media after the announcement, with one tweeting: “Someone has actually lost the plot at Southend.”

Another added: “The f*** do you need an official turmeric supplier for, Ron?” Meanwhile, a third also wrote: “Southend United’s commercial partnerships are wild.”

“F***ing pitch will be yellow before you know it," tweeted another supporter. One more also commented: “Southend United have had a cracking 24 hours.”

The confirmation of an official turmeric supplier comes just a day after local firm Gilbert & Rose were announced as the sponsors of the West Stand at Roots Hall.

As part of their sponsorship deal, the stand has been renamed the Gilbert & Rose West Stand, with fans soon spotting that it now bears the name of serial killer Rose West.

Southend are currently preparing for their second season in the National League following their relegation from League Two in 2021. They are set to begin their campaign on Saturday at home to Boreham Wood.
