Solskjaer’s touchline instructions to Martial shows why he was hooked

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's touchline instructions to Anthony Martial show why he was taken off not long after.

Manchester United did not need the 25-year-old in the end, beating Newcastle United comfortably at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes all got on the scoresheet as they won 3-1 on Sunday.

It saw the Red Devils return to second in the table, jumping above Leicester who briefly sat there after beating Aston Villa earlier in the day.

And while United are back in form, the same cannot be said for Martial.

His latest blank means the Frenchman has scored just four times in the Premier League, his last coming against Southampton in their 9-0 victory.

Against Newcastle, the former Monaco man did not look like a player who was going to add to that total anytime soon.

It did not take long for Solskjaer to be frustrated and he was heard shouting "Start moving!" at him.

Not long after, Mason Greenwood was prepped and came on for the France international as the Red Devils ran out winners.

Solskjaer has showed a lot of patience towards the forward but that might be running out as the club head towards a pivotal moment in the season.

Martial cannot complain about not being picked, with him consistently selected despite his woeful form in front of goal.

This has possibly been his toughest year at Old Trafford, following a season where he could not stop scoring.

The striker had his best campaign in the Premier League last year, scoring 23 in all competitions.

Fans are starting to get on his back, who have also showed patience over the years, but this could be a vital few months for Martial as he looks to get his career on the right track.
