Solskjaer says Man City will never be as big as Man Utd in fresh taunt

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taunted Manchester City by telling them they will never be as big as Manchester United.

The feuding neighbours clash in a lunchtime showdown at Old Trafford today (Sat) that promises to be one of the most explosive of the season.

City are red hot favourites to win and pile the pressure back on Solskjaer and his inconsistent stars.

The defending champions have become the dominant force in English football after winning 13 major trophies in the last decade, including five Premier League titles.

City also reached last season's Champions League final, before spending £100m on Jack Grealish in the summer to make him the most expensive player in British football.

United have not been crowned champions since 2013 and have been forced to live in the shadow of their "noisy neighbours".

But Solskjaer has fanned the flames ahead of the derby by insisting United remain the number one club in Manchester and even the world.

When asked if he thought City could ever eclipse United, Solskjaer said: "No, I can't.

"The thing is, you have to have respect for what they have done in the last ten years, or even more so in the last four or five, with how dominant they have been in England and in Europe.

"But we are Manchester United. We are always going to come back. I think we are the No.1 club in Manchester – and that also probably means in the world."

City tried to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, only to be left devastated when United stepped in to pinch him from under their noses.

Ronaldo has gone on to score nine goals in 11 games this season – and Solskjaer reckons the Portuguese superstar will never be seen in a light blue shirt.

He added: "The good thing is that would never happen – and there is no chance of that happening. I am happy he is wearing the red and hopefully he can be the difference again."
