Solskjaer cannot ignore Amad’s Man Utd impact with first team choice to make
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has wisely pleaded patience with Amad since he finally completed his protracted move to Manchester United.
Despite forking out £37million to Atalanta for the winger, aged just 18, Amad is being given time to adjust to English football.
Although his appearances have been limited to Neil Wood’s under-23 side, he is a part of United’s first-team bubble and a regular in senior training.
Perhaps to the United boss’ surprise, his integration into sessions at Carrington has gone smoother than anticipated, with the youngster already shining.
On his first impressions of the player, he said: “He can handle the ball, he’s enjoyed training, makes a difference in training, which is quite remarkable at his age.
“Some adjustment to settle into the hustle and bustle of the Premier League but I can’t see it’s too long until he’s in the squad.
“It [his debut] might be quicker than that [a few weeks], he’s definitely settled down, well, players have taken to him, he’s a good character, polite, smiley boy who works really hard.
“He’s doing his sessions, getting used to us, there’s always a period of adjustment needed but he’s settling in well.”
And his impressive showings haven’t just been limited to the confines of United’s training ground. In his first two appearances for the U23s he has a remarkable three goals and three assists.
In Friday night’s win over Blackburn Rovers, Amad picked up three assists to go along with a goal of his own.
He also made headlines for an outrageous piece of skill that left United fans desperate to see him involved in the first-team sooner rather than later.
Solskjaer admitted that Amad was in his thinking when he named the matchday squad for the Premier League clash against Everton, ultimately missing out.
But with the FA Cup allowing two extra subs, he could be in line for his first inclusion for the tie against West Ham on Tuesday night.
His performances may now be simply too good to ignore.
