The 26-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Red Devils over a move to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his midfield and their weaknesses were once again exposed during a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
But United’s hopes of signing Amrabat have been hamstrung by their inability to sell fringe players.
The club had targeted a net spend of £120m this summer in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
After spending £172m, that means they must raise £52m through player sales.
Dean Henderson is set to join Crystal Palace in a £20m deal, while the sales of Anthony Elanga, Mateo Kovar, Alex Telles and Fred have raised around £40m.
But United need to raise around £20m more to sign Amrabat in a £30m deal.
The Moroccan has requested not to be part of Fiorentina’s squad for the remainder of the window.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport say Amrabat is desperate to move to Old Trafford and is ‘waiting to fly’ to Manchester, once a fee is agreed.
It remains to be seen, with four days left in the window, whether United can pull off a deal.
