Sir Alex Ferguson has heaped praise on Erik ten Hag, claiming the Manchester United manager is doing a ‘fantastic job’ at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is the fifth permanent United manager in 10 years following Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
The Scot won 38 trophies in a remarkable 26-year tenure and since his departure United have fallen behind some of their rivals.
But during Ten Hag’s first season, United won the Carabao Cup and finished third in the Premier League.
This summer, the Dutchman has added to his squad, signing goalkeeper Andre Onana ($59.6m), striker Rasmus Hojlund ($91m) and midfielder Mason Mount ($76m).

The Dutchman began his second season in charge against Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday
‘I think Ten Hag has done a fantastic job,’ Ferguson, 81, told NBC Sports ahead of Monday’s Premier League opener against Wolves.
‘He’s grabbed it, he’s brought his own players in – I think that was important – and if he gets the centre forward ready quickly, they’ll be a really good side.
‘Because that’s what they have really lacked in the last few years – a centre forward.’
Hojlund is currently sidelined with a back injury, suffered before his move from Atalanta. Ten Hag has vowed not to rush the 20-year-old back before he is ready.

‘The rest of the team – the composition of the team – is very good,’ Ferguson continued.
‘They have great experience with defenders – (Raphael) Varane and (Lisandro) Martinez and experience in midfield with (Christian) Eriksen and Casemiro.
‘So there’s a foundation there and a foundation is always completed by your goalkeeper and a centre forward.
‘He’s got a new goalkeeper, who’s very athletic, and a centre forward who I obviously hope is fit quickly.’
