Sheikh Jassim could leave Erik ten Hag red-faced by signing Camavinga

Sheikh Jassim of Qatar has already reportedly identified three transfers he hopes to make, should his bid be successful to purchase Manchester United. The Qatari-backed offer is rivalled by Sir Jim Ratcliffe who has also offered current owners the Glazers the chance to remain at Old Trafford, as both will have big plans for their first transfer window in charge.

Jassim has reportedly identified three France internationals as his first incomings at Old Trafford, a switch from previous claims that Neymar was lined up to be the face of the club, as he now wants to sign Neymar’s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe instead. The French superstar could be joined by two of his compatriots if Jassim gets his wish, as Kingsley Coman and Eduardo Camavinga may also be targeted.

The trio have achieved plenty in sport during their careers, but Camavinga at just 20 has recently won every trophy possible with Real Madrid – having spent just under two years at Los Blancos. After featuring in their 2-1 win over Osasuna in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, he became the youngest Real Madrid player ever to win all six trophies.

Since joining the club, Camavinga has won La Liga, the Champions League, Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

If he were to take on a new challenge and move to United under Erik ten Hag, it could leave the Dutchman red-faced coaching a player that at such a young age has achieved it all in Spain – and in fact has more trophies in his cabinet than him! That’s because he also won the French Cup with Rennes in 2019 as well as the Nations League with France in 2021 to take him to eight overall.

Ten Hag did win his first trophy possible at United with the Carabao Cup, but aside from that victory over Newcastle in the final his only successes as a first-team head coach have been with Ajax. In the Netherlands, he did claim three Eredivisie titles in addition to two KNVB Cups and a Johan Cruyff Shield but that leaves him on seven honours.

Ten Hag has proven this season, however, that he is capable of handling big personalities that have a track record of winning. Despite falling out with Cristiano Ronaldo which resulted in the Portuguese forward’s contract being terminated at United, Ten Hag was widely praised for his handling of the situation.

While Casemiro and Raphael Varane had similar reputations at Real Madrid, having won five and four Champions Leagues respectively and all six possible trophies while in La Liga.

The pair have gone on to be integral parts of Ten Hag’s squad as he has had no issues with either player – potentially an insight as to how Camavinga would fare at United if Jassim gets his wish and signs the Frenchman.
