Sheikh Jassim can give Man Utd fans perfect present if he seals £5bn takeover

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews Bournemouth game

Manchester United supporters have sent a clear message to potential new owner Sheikh Jassim as the man leading the Qatari-backed bid will hope to begin executing his transfer plans. A new poll from Express Sport shows that the majority of fans have identified a new striker as a necessity as Erik ten Hag will hope that more firepower is added to his arsenal.

When asked who United’s top transfer target this summer, 45 per cent of voters felt that Harry Kane should be Ten Hag and Jassim’s priority. The England captain has just over a year left on his current contract at Tottenham but his reluctance to commit his future to the north London side has only furthered speculation that he could be ready to leave in search of trophies.

The club appears to be listening to their supporters, as United are looking to launch an early bid for Kane in order to not get involved in a lengthy transfer saga. Ten Hag is said to be “obsessed” with the idea of bringing the 29-year-old to Old Trafford, as Spurs’ resolve is set to be tested by the Red Devils and he would represent the perfect welcoming present by Jassim to the United faithful.

Spurs and Daniel Levy are known to be tough negotiators, something that United’s local rivals Manchester City found out as they tried to sign Kane two years ago, though the Red Devils will have a backup plan if they are unsuccessful in landing their main target.

Kane, Osimhen, Tammy Abraham and Lautaro Martinez make up 79 per cent of the votes – fans have made their feelings clear that the utmost importance should be given to bringing in a new striker.

Though defensive solidity is also seen as important to the fanbase, with 11 per cent believing that United’s top target should be Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae. Italian outlet II Mattino described the £56million deal as ‘practically done’ as the club had already identified a house for him to live in.

United could be set to pay his release clause and provide further competition for the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

While in front of them, Declan Rice is the top target of seven per cent of those polled, then Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez the favoured signing of four per cent, ahead of what could be a very busy summer for Jassim if he is successful in purchasing the club.
