BT Sport commentator Darren Fletcher had to be rushed to hospital overnight after suffering an anaphylactic shock.

Fletcher, who is the main commentator for the channel's football coverage, posted about the "scary" incident on Twitter, confirming that he is now on the mend. Uploading a picture of himself sitting upright in a hospital bed, he wrote: "Had anaphylactic shock in the early hours which was quite scary – it was a reaction to something.

"Struggled to breath and stuff but the staff at the QMC have been brilliant. The adrenaline was interesting! Hoping to be home later."

The 50-year-old broadcaster was inundated with kind messages from fans wishing him well. A few hours later, he provided another positive update, thanks the well wishers for perking him up.

He added: "Thanks for the messages – they’ve perked me up no end and lots have made me laugh. It’s very much appreciated x."

Fletcher had earlier posted a scary image of himself laying horizontal in a hospital bed. Thankfully, he now seems to be on the mend – much to the delight of football fans on social media.

One wrote: "Take care Darren." As another said: "Get well and stay safe Fletch! Absolutely fantastic people at the QMC too." A third person added: "Get well soon Fletch. Rest up mate. Speedy recovery."

Others said: "Yikes! That’s a scary one….so glad your ok and on the mend! X." And: "Goodness! Glad you're on the mend and hope you're back in action soon."

Fletcher began his career as a broadcaster in 1993 and has also worked for the BBC. As well as being BT Sport's main voice of football, he often contributes to their boxing coverage, too.
