Saka and Smith Rowe’s "embarrassing" celebration before VAR ruled out goal

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have been ridiculed for their choreographed celebration before VAR ruled out a goal for Arsenal against Watford.

Saka thought he had given the Gunners an early lead in the Premier League clash at the Emirates when he scored with a left-footed effort.

However, after a lengthy VAR check the goal wasn't given as the England international was in an offside position behind Hornets goalkeeper Ben Foster.

He and attacking partner Smith Rowe still had time to celebrate, though, and pulled out some pre-planned moves before being left with egg on their faces by the decision.

The moment was soon branded "embarrassing" by a fan online while another tweeted: "Smith-Rowe and Saka looking like absolute d***heads then celebrating the goal that got overturned hahahahaha."

"That Saka and Smith Rowe celebration is gonna be a meme ffs," an Arsenal supporter claimed.

One person declared: "That Saka and Smith-Rowe celebration was worse than the s*** Ince and Giggs used to do."

That comment was a nod to the infamous celebration which saw the former Manchester United duo touch hands and pull away from each other slowly.

The online berating continued: "Smith Rowe and Saka doing some awful celebration for the goal to be overruled by VAR! Pair of kn***."

The Arsenal pair have been key to Mikel Arteta's recent turnaround and are now two of the first names on the teamsheet.

Saka was once again called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

However, despite his rich rein of form, Smith Rowe was not chosen for the two matches against Albania and San Marino.

He's certainly knocking at Southgate's door, though, and could be included come the next international break in March 2022.
