Roy Keane claims he would keep just seven Manchester United players if given the choice.
United crashed out of the Champions League prematurely on Tuesday night following a dismal 1-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich. Erik ten Hag’s side needed a victory if they were to progress to the knockout rounds, but even that wouldn’t have made a difference given FC Copenhagen beat Galatasaray.
It meant the Red Devils’ season is pretty much over already in the eyes of fans, with the side 10 points off Premier League leaders Liverpool. Many had hoped this summer’s acquisitions of almost £200million would give Ten Hag the tools he needed to compete for trophies.

But club legend and Sky Sports pundit Keane thinks the whole squad needs a revamp if United are to overcome their current mess. Speaking to Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher and former United team-mate Gary Neville on the Stick to Football podcast, the pundit discussed who he would keep and who he would let go from the current team.
But Keane incredibly only kept seven players out of a squad of 22. That included defender Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, captain Bruno Fernandez, youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, and summer signings Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount.

Interestingly, the Irishman also said he’d keep Ten Hag as manager at a stage where the Dutchman’s position has come under increasing pressure. It suggests he doesn’t think Ten Hag is to blame for a side which has struggled for a decade now.
Keane decided to axe senior players such as Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire, who has enjoyed a resurgence this season. He also raised question marks around Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, insisting he would give them a “last chance”.
Flop signing Anthony Martial was also part of the list of exits, while 31-year-old Christian Eriksen was deemed “not good enough”. And Keane may yet get his wish, with Ten Hag reportedly planning a major clear-out.
Players such as Martial are expected to leave at the end of the season once their contracts expire, while outcast Jadon Sancho could be flogged as early as January.
