Roy Keane hints managerial days could be over after snubbing Sunderland job
Roy Keane has suggested that he may not go back into management, following his decision not to rejoin Sunderland as manager.
The former Manchester United captain looked all but set to take up the Black Cats’ dugout once more but he ended up walking away at a point where talks were at an advanced stage, with Alex Neil taking the role instead.
The Irishman, 50, said on the Overlap Live: "I've not had the opportunity the last few years. There has not been a club where I think, 'I'm the right fit for that club'.
"If I don't get another chance, it's no big deal. You need a bit of luck. The right club has to give you the call. That hasn't happened. It's no big deal."
"The deal has to be right for everyone. It didn't fall into place last week. It wasn't meant to be.
"Everything has to be right – the right challenge, the right contract.”
The news comes after furious Sunderland supporters claimed that they had been misled by chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, who recently revealed the club’s former owners still hold a majority share.
There was jubilation when the Swiss took over in February of last year – but instead fo the Madrox group – Stewart Donald, Juan Sartori and Charlie Methven – having a minority share, it transpired that they had retained a majority.
Louis-Dreyfus confirmed he owns just 41 per cent of the club but also insisted that he has control of the League One club.

In a statement to fans, the 24-year-old said: “As previously stated, I have executive control of the running of the football club – something that was a fundamental requirement upon the purchase of my shares – and the executive management team report directly into me on a day-to-day basis
“Over the past 12 months, SAFC has required significant shareholder funding as part of our ongoing investment within the club and as a result of the lasting financial challenges from the pandemic.
“Substantial investment will continue to be required moving forward to ensure we fulfil our collective objectives and all shareholders remain wholly committed to honouring their respective financial obligations.”
But fans raged online, saying they had the wool pulled over their eyes.
One said: “One thing is for sure: Kyril Louis-Dreyfus is not going to emerge from this sorry episode looking good. He’s clearly entrusted a lot of responsibility to Speakman, and he’s proven to be absolutely unsuited to the job of sporting director. KLD should sack him.”
Another wrote: “‘The simple truth is that fans have been misled again. Coaxed into supporting a falsehood. A new “owner” had a chance to rebuild trust and he's blown it to bits.”
