Roy Keane buys new apartment estimated to be worth close to £6million

Roy Keane has reportedly used some of his Manchester United and Sky Sports wages to splash out on a £5.7million luxury apartment in Dublin's most expensive development.

The 51-year-old, who also played for Nottingham Forest and Celtic, is said to have purchased a new property on the 6.8-acre site alongside wife Theresa at Christmas.

The couple, who also have a Cheshire mansion which is 9500sq foot, have five children and two grandchildren and often visit Keane's Mum in Cork.

The Irish Times report adds that the apartments, which overlook the Aviva Stadium, are on the site of the former Berkeley Court and Jurys hotels – with 215 made available in total.

It is not yet known if the combative former midfielder will use the apartment himself or as an investment, with another buyer at the location said to be Rod Stewart.

Photos of properties on the site show off luxury living areas in a modern design, with a breakfast bar as well as sprawling views across Dublin.

Family could've been very different for Keane following a less than successful first date with wife Theresa, as he told comedian Tommy Tiernan earlier this month.

He explained: "We probably really only had one proper date which wasn’t good really. It went very badly."

Adding: "We went for a spin and I said ‘Do you fancy going to the pictures?’ because you don’t have to chat too much. And she said ‘No, I went last night with my friends’. I said ‘You know, there’s other movies on'.

"So I literally drove back, this is all within 10-15 minutes. She said 'What are you doing?' and I said 'Well, you don’t want to go for a drink or go to the pictures, what else can we do?'

"She got out. I said 'See you next week' and she replied 'I don’t think so' and slammed the door. That was my first date."

Their extended family now includes kids Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah, and Alanna, with Keane's most recent job in coaching coming with Forest in 2019.
