Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested Sir Alex Ferguson would still have his back despite his controversial antics at Manchester United this season, insisting: ‘He’s always on my side’.

The second part of Ronaldo’s explosive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, in which he unleashed an astonishing attack on United and several high-profile figures, aired on Thursday night following Wednesday’s opening instalment.

Having been left unhappy with his lack of game time under Erik ten Hag this season, the 37-year-old went on the offensive in a sensational 90-minute discussion with Morgan, where he spoke of his lack of ‘respect’ for the current Red Devils boss as well as his predecessor Ralf Rangnick.

Ronaldo’s bombshell interview is the latest – and biggest – controversy he has whipped up at United of late, having also stormed down the Old Trafford tunnel after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham last month.

Though despite being suspended by his club for the first time in his career and reportedly causing friction behind the scenes, Ronaldo is adamant that Ferguson – who helped him develop into one of the best players on the planet in Manchester – would still ‘understand’ where he is coming from.

‘I don’t speak with him like one month ago, but he’s always on my side,’ Ronaldo said when asked what the Scot would make of his actions.

‘He always understand me. He knows that, he knows better than [everybody] that the club is not on the path they deserve to be. He knows. Everyone knows.

But Ronaldo says Ferguson, his old boss at United, would still have his back despite the antics

‘The people who don’t see that is because they don’t want to see; they are blamed.

‘The fans, they are always the answer, and the passion for the game. Manchester belongs to the fans, but they should know the truth. The infrastructure, they are not good. They should change.’

Ronaldo’s future at United appears all but over in the wake of his fiery chat with Morgan. Former team-mate Gary Neville is adamant that the club have no option but to move him on in the January transfer window.

Sportsmail revealed on Monday that the player and his agent Jorge Mendes held talks with Bayern Munich last week as he looks to escape his Old Trafford nightmare.

When asked if he will still be a United player on January 1, Ronaldo said: ‘It’s difficult to tell right now, it’s because, we, my mood is right now to the World Cup.

‘It’s probably my last World Cup, of course, my fifth World Cup. I don’t know what’s gonna happen after the World Cup, but as I told you before, and I will say again, the fans will be always in my heart. And I hope they been in my side, even if I [go] back, or if I’m not back, or if I stay or whatever.

‘Nobody’s perfect. Episodes in the life we all have is part of the human beings, is part of me to be a human being and father as well. I always will commit mistakes.

‘But I don’t know, it’s hard to tell right now what’s going to happen to World Cup because my focus is for the World Cup, for the Portugal national team.’
