Ronaldo caught taunting Newcastle fans in warm-up before awful Man Utd showing

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was caught taunting the Newcastle United fans before kick-off on Monday evening.

Ronaldo, who was taking part in a shooting drill, was greeted with a chorus of boos at St James' Park as he lined up to take a pop at goal.

However, when the 36-year-old calmly slotted the ball into the net, he turned to the Toon Army and cupped his ears.

The Newcastle faithful were forced to eat their words as the Portuguese megastar stared into the crowd.

But the crowd got the last laugh as Newcastle kept Ronaldo quiet for the 90 minutes to earn a hard-fought point.

Newcastle might have felt they deserved more from the Premier League clash.

Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton put in two of the performances of the season, and the former bagged a well-earned goal to steer the Magpies ahead.

United seemed to crumble under the pressure of the North East crowd as Newcastle pushed on for a second.

However, Edinson Cavani saved the blushes of Ralf Rangnick's side when he levelled the scoreline in the 71st minute, snatching a draw for United.

"Today we didn't control the game apart from a few moments. It's all about energy, physicality and who wins the second balls. In all those areas we weren't at our best," Rangnick told Sky Sports.

"You have to be ready and able to win those direct duels and this was not that often the case. When we were in possession we had too many giveaways and even with the goal, that doesn't make things easy.

"Today was not a question of body language, it was a question of body physicality. If you want to be competitive here you have to get physical and this was not the case in many parts of the game.

"Our biggest problem was the mistakes we made. Even when we scored the equaliser we were not really controlling the game and taking the right decisions.

"I didn't like the performance at all."

The result leaves Newcastle fighting for survival in the relegation zone.

They have played 19 games so far this season, four more than 18th placed Burnley, who sit ahead of them, and three more than 17th placed Watford.

United, on the other hand, remain seventh, but possess games in hand.
