Tottenham target Cristian Romero is set to tell Atalanta he wants to leave for the Premier League club TODAY as Spurs look to push through a deal for the defender after making £42.5m offer

Cristian Romero is expected to tell Atalanta today that he wishes to leave to join Tottenham.

The Argentine centre back is due back in training on Monday and will hold talks with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who is keen to understand the player’s intentions.

Tottenham have yet to agree a fee with Atalanta but made an improved bid of around £42.5million last week. It represents a substantial profit on the £13.6m Atalanta paid in June to make Romero’s loan from Juventus permanent.

Atalanta have already signed another centre back in Matteo Lovato who Gasperini believes can replace the 23-year old Romero should he be sold.

Tottenham captain Harry Kane was due back for medical assessment tests today ahead of his return to training but did not turn up as expected.

Kane remains keen to leave the club and is expected to underline that to chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham’s stance remains that he is tied to a contract. Manchester City are monitoring developments.
