Romelu Lukaku already eyeing Premier League golden boot after debut Chelsea goal

Cesar Azpilicueta reckons Romelu Lukaku already has his sights set on winning the Golden Boot this season.

Lukaku stole the show in Sunday’s 2-0 win at Arsenal and is already off the mark after scoring the opener in his first game back for the Blues.

But Azpilicueta believes that is just the start for Chelsea’s club record £97.5m signing – who has hit the ground running.

Blues captain Azpilicueta said: “We know he can do it. Let’s go step by step. I’m sure he is very ambitious and he wants everything.

“That will come maybe as a consequence of good play from the whole team and the way he plays. Let’s see. It was a very strong performance.

“He scored a goal and created a lot of problems. I have no doubt he’s going to be a key player for us. He has the ambition and desire to be successful.”

Lukaku failed to score a single goal for Chelsea during his first spell with the club, but Azpilicueta can see he has returned a different player.

The Belgian revealed last week how Azpilicueta has made him feel so welcome since his return that he feels like he never left.

Azpilicueta said: “With Romelu I always had a great relationship, since the beginning, when he was here the first time.

“We have always been in contact. Of course I tried to help him. He’s a completely different player now, with experience.

“The way he proved already his qualities is key. I try to always be here to help but I’m sure he’s already settled and is ready to help the team.

“You can see his strengths, his personality, his goalscoring, his assists – even though it was his first game and he only had one week of training.
