Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has paid tribute to his side’s test of character after grabbing a stunning win over Liverpool following a tricky festive period.
The Foxes saw off Jurgen Klopp’s title chasers 1-0 on Tuesday evening after substitute Ademola Lookman struck just before the hour mark at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester went into the game having faced Liverpool just six days before in a Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat on penalty kicks, as well as a gruelling trip to table toppers and current league champions Manchester City on Boxing Day where they were hammered 6-3.

But Rodgers has lauded his side’s display against the Reds on home soil, for bouncing back from crushing defeats to show ‘resilience.’
‘When you play against the two teams we have played, it was going to be a huge test of our mentality and spirit and physicality,’ Rodgers told Amazon Prime.
‘There’s probably not a team more physical in the league than Liverpool so to come through with a clean sheet and in the way we played showed our resilience.
‘I am lost for words really as it was such a heroic performance in the context of the two games.’
Substitute Ademola Lookman netted the game’s only goal for the Foxes in the 59th minute
As well as the effort shown by his team, Rodgers was also keen to point out that the Foxes also stuck to his plan tactically as they picked up just their third league victory since the end of October.
‘I said after the Manchester City game that we had played well going forward. But of course with all the players missing it’s been a challenge for us structurally’, he added.
‘We knew this game that the headlines were probably already written. You write your own story in football and we said that to the players before to make a big effort and give big energy.
James Maddison proved a threat to Liverpool’s backline playing in Leicester’s diamond
‘We felt with how Liverpool play their full-backs are really important so playing the diamond it allows you to be 2v2 on the centre-backs. Our No 10 has to then fill in – which is James Maddison.
‘They are so good and they move the ball so fast so you have to block the spaces if you can. Tactically, they were very good in the game.
‘If you play a diamond, especially against a big team, they can switch it over to the sides. I felt after an hour we could bring on Ademola to give us the speed and quality. We then went to a 4-3-3 to give us that width and fill the sides when we were defending.’
