Rio Ferdinand has slammed Hugo Lloris’ attempt to save Dominic Calvert Lewin’s equaliser for Everton against Tottenham as ‘an embarrassment’.

Spurs took the lead in the FA Cup fifth round tie thanks to Davinson Sanchez’s header just three minutes in to the fixture at Goodison Park.

But England forward Calvert-Lewin restored parity just more than half an hour later when he smashed an effort past Frenchman Lloris.

Calvert-Lewin hit a powerful shot at Lloris, who could only divert it in off his left hand

The forward received the ball after Spurs had lost the ball near their own penalty area and Gylfi Sigurdsson had pulled off a nice flick.

Calvert-Lewin went for goal with his right foot at the near post and Lloris could only divert the powerful effort in to the corner off his left hand.

That triggered a first-half collapse from Tottenham as they conceded three goals in seven minutes, with Richarlison and a Sigurdsson penalty putting Everton seemingly in the clear.

And Ferdinand slammed the France international’s powder puff effort in trying to save Everton’s first goal

And speaking to BT Sport, former defender Ferdinand criticised the Tottenham captain’s poor attempt but admitted he had little chance with Richarlison’s strike from outside the area which put the hosts 2-1 up.

‘It’s embarrassing, it’s an embarrassment,’ Ferdinand said.

‘He has fallen back into his own goal. His arms, like a powder puff effort there. Weak. He will be disappointed I’m sure as well as the Spurs fans and players.

Ferdinand sympathised with Lloris though and said he had little chance with Richarlison’s goal

‘Can you blame him for the second goal too? I’m not sure, but the strike through the defender’s legs makes it difficult for the goalkeeper.’

Lloris has kept just eight clean sheets from 28 matches across all competitions so far this season.

Spurs however made up for their collapse by drawing back level with their hosts thanks to Sanchez’s second after Erik Lamela had reduced the deficit just before the break.

But Richarlison then restored Everton’s lead with a thumping effort in the thriller at Goodison Park before Harry Kane headed home at the back post to make draw Jose Mourinho’s men level once again.
