Rio Ferdinand believes that Chelsea’s youngsters are delighted with the arrival of Graham Potter at the club as the former Manchester United defender suggested some youth products may have left the club under Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea’s decision to sack Tuchel at the start of September was scathed by many supporters and pundits, including Ferdinand, but Potter has been able to win over the doubters after winning six Premier League games and beating AC Milan in the Champions League.
Ferdinand admitted he has been won around by the former Brighton boss, explaining that his ability to get Chelsea’s younger and more inexperienced players firing has been crucial to his early success.

‘The young players, Broja there were loads of clubs courting him, in years gone by he would have been let go,’ said Ferdinand on BT Sport.
‘The same with Conor Gallagher. Now they are sitting there thinking thank god for this guy.
‘There would have been a lot of people going ‘oh my god’ Tuchel has gone, I was one of them.

‘But there will be some young players who really benefit from this. Chelsea have a fantastic youth academy as well,’ he added.
Broja came off the bench to score his first goal for Chelsea in their 3-0 win over Wolves, while Gallagher has begun to get first-team minutes since returning from Crystal Palace.
Chelsea have famously rued losing young players who didn’t make the initial cut at Stamford Bridge with Kevin de Bruyne, Mo Salah, and Romelu Lukaku amongst some of the biggest names to leave and fashion successful careers elsewhere.

There is a renewed focus on improving young players under new billionaire owner Todd Boehly, matching the track record of Potter’s Brighton where he brought through and improved a host of young talent.
At his former club, the Englishman transformed Brighton into one of the Premier League’s most attacking teams and now at Chelsea it seems younger players will be at the core of his plans for the future.
