Rio Ferdinand explains what Man Utd staff have told him about Amad Diallo
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has revealed what staff at the club have told him about new signing Amad Diallo.
The Red Devils confirmed the arrival of the teenager from Atalanta on Friday, having agreed a £37million deal with the Serie A side in October.
Staying with the club to gain more playing experience, the 18-year-old has been showing fans what he can do in training.
And Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles and a Champions League honour at Old Trafford, has been hearing some big predictions inside the club.
Speaking to YouTube channel FIVE , the United hero said: “We just bought a kid in from Atalanta and hopefully he does something [to boost United’s season].
“If you see his clips and speak to some of the people at the club that were involved in buying him – potentially this kid could be an absolute world beater.
“I think that’s the thoughts of Manchester United people that they’ve unearthed.
"I’m not going to give him that pressure of Cristiano Ronaldo but nobody knew about Ronaldo when we bought him really other than people in Portugal.
“This kid seems quite similar in that sense. if you see his clips and the way people talk about him then I think the world is his oyster if he applies himself right.”
Diallo impressed United last season when he scored eight goals and made 11 assists for Atalanta, mainly coming in the academy with a goal on his senior debut.
Having honed his skills in the reserves this season, the teenager has now arrived at Carrington to take the No.19 shirt that Marcus Rashford used to wear.
But the forward has been warned by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he needs to work on his “physical qualities” before getting a chance in the senior squad.
And this has been supported by Diallo’s former coach Denis Cerlini, who said: “Physically, Amad wasn't the strongest at Boca Barco, and his heading abilities aren't good.”
The Ivorian’s attacking ability, though, has been clear to see as he made an incredible Champions League debut.
