REVEALED: Lingard ANGRY with Man Utd over collapse of Newcastle loan
REVEALED: Jesse Lingard is ANGRY with Man United over the collapse of his loan move to Newcastle after Red Devils demanded a £12MILLION survival bonus – having rejected bids from Tottenham and West Ham because they are seen as rivals
- Jesse Lingard is wanted on loan by Newcastle after being unused at Man United
- United demanded an initial £2.5m loan fee plus a £12m survival bonus though
- This included covering the 29-year-old’s £100,000-a-week wages in full too
- Lingard is upset that his boyhood club are driving such a hard bargain in the deal
The breakdown of Jesse Lingard’s loan move from Manchester United to Newcastle has left the England international angry and frustrated.
Newcastle’s Saudi owners have baulked at a £12million survival bonus – payable to United if they stay in the Premier League – on top of a £2.5m loan fee and Lingard’s £100,000-a-week wages.
United’s demands would take the potential cost of the deal to £16.5m, the equivalent of £1m-a-week over the four-month loan.

Newcastle are Lingard’s preferred destination despite approaches from West Ham and Spurs
Lingard is understood to be upset that United rejected offers from Tottenham and West Ham because they are seen as top-four rivals, and have then driven such a hard bargain with Newcastle.
Old Trafford insiders maintain that the bonus is justified based on the financial impact of relegation.
Having enjoyed a successful loan spell at West Ham last year, Lingard is hoping to do the same again to boost his chances of regaining a place in the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
However, the player believes he is being punished for refusing to sign a new contract at Old Trafford, meaning that he can walk away in the summer as a free agent.
He feels disrespected after spending a total of 21 years at United, and let down that he has made just two starts this season after being promised more opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It’s understood that Lingard was surprised to receive a call from one United executive asking him where his ‘head was at’ when the club knew full well that all he wanted to do was make a fresh start elsewhere.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick spoke to the 29-year-old by phone in Dubai, where Lingard is spending the first week of the winter break, and gave him the green light to leave because he does not figure in the German’s plans.
A source close to the player said on Wednesday: ‘It’s pointless Jesse going into work now knowing that he isn’t going to feature.’
Lingard now faces being stuck at United for the rest of the season with little prospect of playing unless United can revive negotiations with Newcastle or set up an alternative deal before Monday’s transfer deadline.
