Redknapp urged to "take a breath" after heated Man Utd argument with Keane

Sky Sports Super Sunday presenter David Jones was forced to intervene after a heated argument between pundits Jamie Redknapp and Roy Keane.

Before Tottenham’s clash with Burnley, Redknapp had taken issue with Keane’s claim that nobody in the Spurs squad would start for one of their Champions League rivals.

Jose Mourinho’s side have struggled in the Premier League this season, after starting the campaign well and were nine points adrift of West Ham in fourth.

That cause Keane to brand the Spurs squad as not good enough to play for any of their rivals, with Redknapp unhappy with the former Manchester United man’s analysis.

Focusing particularly on the Spurs defence, Redknapp had highlighted the number of internationals in the squad.

“I don’t think this is an average team, it’s full of internationals,” he said.

“Dier who doesn’t play today plays for England, Sanchez Colombia, Alderweireld plays for the number one team in the world.”

Keane, who had a spell as the assistant manager of Ireland’s national team, disagreed.

“Playing for your country doesn’t make you a top player,” he said.

“If you can trap the ball, you can play for your country these days. Doesn’t make you a top player, being an international.”

Redknapp then highlighted the quality of the countries the Spurs squad play for, with Alderweireld representing Belgium, who are the top-ranked side in the world.

“They play for good countries though, you saying Alderweireld who plays for Belgium isn’t a good player?” Redknapp said.

Keane again disagreed with Redknapp and claimed none of Spurs’ rivals would sign a Tottenham player.

“Would he get into any of the top teams in England? Man United wouldn’t take him, Manchester City wouldn’t take him, I don’t think Leicester would take him,” he said.

That prompted Redknapp to describe Sergio Reguilon as a ‘class player’, though Keane fired back by saying: “That’s why Real Madrid let him go.”

Keane’s analysis again angered Redknapp, who questioned his thoughts on Reguilon.

“Does that matter? Oh because Real Madrid let him go that doesn’t make him a good player?” he said.

Redknapp eventually got Keane to admit that Reguillon is a ‘class’ player, with host Jones then stepping in.

“Just take a breath Jamie,” Jones said to end the argument.
