Redknapp slams 'reckless' Robinson for red-card tackle on Azpilicueta
‘You can’t tackle like that anymore’: Jamie Redknapp slams ‘reckless’ Fulham wing-back Antonee Robinson for red-card challenge on Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta
- Fulham went down to 10-men after 44 minutes against Chelsea on Saturday
- Antonee Robinson went flying in on Cesar Azpilcueta, receiving a straight red
- Jamie Redknapp agreed with the call and called-out Robinson for being reckless
Antonee Robinson’s flying challenge on Cesar Azpilicueta drew not only a red-card but criticism from Jamie Redknapp, who branded the Fulham wing-back ‘reckless.’
With the scores at 0-0 and 44 minutes on the clock, Robinson flew in with a wild challenge on the Blues skipper, arriving late and sending the Spaniard flying.
Peter Bankes produced his red card instantly, giving the Cottagers a tough task against Frank Lampard’s talented side.

‘The way the game is now, you can’t tackle like that anymore. Simple as that,’ Redknapp said on Sky Sports punditry duty.
‘It’s reckless and out of control, that’s what referees look at. Is there any intent to hurt him? No, I don’t think so.
‘He just gets there a fraction too late and every time you see these tackles now… that’s just the way the game’s gone. In my day it’s a yellow card.
Robinson’s suspension will be a blow to Fulham, as the wing-back has been a key player
‘The disappointment for Scott (Parker) is they were just having their best spell. They’d got a foothold in the game on the counter-attack.’
Parker’s side are making significant progress since a dreadful start left them looking condemned to relegation, turning their defeats into five-straight draws before kick-off at Craven Cottage.
Robinson joined Fulham from Wigan and has instantly become a crucial player in the side, having come close to joining AC Milan from the now League One side a year ago.
