  • Real Madrid have a huge boost with Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy returning
  • Los Blancos captain Ramos has barely featured this year due to injury problems
  • Zinedine Zidane likely to name both in squad for Champions League vs Chelsea
  • Raphael Varane is out of the semi-final while Fede Valverde is still a doubt

Real Madrid have received a huge boost ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea, with captain Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy returning from injury.

The centre-back has only played three matches in over the last four months and it is unknown whether Zinedine Zidane will name Ramos in the starting side at Stamford Bridge.

Left-back Ferland Mendy is also set to return to the Madrid squad as he also resumed full training after suffering an injury in another huge boost for Zidane.

However, it isn’t all good news for the LaLiga giants as Raphael Varane – who would usually line up alongside Ramos in Madrid’s strongest set-up – has been ruled out after suffering a knock against Osasuna on Saturday.

Midfielder Federico Valverde is also a doubt as it stands, as he waits to return a second negative covid-19 test before he can rejoin the Los Blancos squad.

Real Madrid have work to do in the tie if they are to reach another Champions League final after their 1-1 draw in the first leg at home.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for Thomas Tuchel’s side with a composed finish as he rounded goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Madrid striker Karim Benzema fired the hosts level with a wonderful strike to even the scoreline but Chelsea have the slight advantage thanks to the away goal.

Zidane’s side also find themselves in the midst of a tight and tense title race in LaLiga with rivals Atletico Madrid and Barcelona with four matches remaining.
