Antoine Griezmann has shocked Barcelona by reportedly claiming that he has always dreamt of playing for El Clasico rivals Real Madrid. And with Barca’s financial troubles mounting by the day, it may not be an impossible a move as you may think. DefensaCentral say Griezmann is eager to switch to Real and so Express Sport takes a look at the star-filled XI that the 13-time European champions could field if they were to sign the talismanic Frenchman.
Goalkeeper: Courtois
A bit of a no brainer, really.
Courtois has been Real’s number one for three years, missing just fifteen league games in his time at the Bernabeu.
And with no real competition for his name – Andriy Lunin is their second choice – it looks as though Courtois will remain as the man between the sticks.
Defence: Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Mendy
The departures of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos from any team in ther world have been enough to make fans fret over the new season.
However, with Eder Militao developing strongly under the guidance of Ramos last campaign, and experienced superstar David Alaba arriving from Bayern Munich on a free, Los Blancos fans can afford to relax that little bit more at the players taking to the heart of their defence.
With experienced man Dani Carvajal fulfilling the right-back berth for the last decade – bar last season when Militao, Alvaro Odriozola and Lucas Vazquez filled the role – and Ferland Mendy occupying the space on the left, this is a new-look defence that is capable of winning major tournaments.
Midfield: Casemiro, Modric, Kroos
This has been the Real Madrid midfield for the past six seasons, and with Toni Kroos and Casemiro hitting their peaks alongside Luka Modric aging like a fine wine, there seems to be no reason for that to change.
The capital outfit have Federico Valverde, Isco, Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard if needed, which shows immense squad depth.
However, with the aforementioned three seemingly undroppable, it seems they will start a seventh season alongside one another as they set off on another journey hunting for trophies.
Forwards: Griezmann, Benzema, Hazard
This is undoutedbly the toughest area in which to pick the starting players.
With a signing like Griezmann, Real would have players all across the park – bar Eden Hazard, Alaba and Mendy – who have without a doubt proved themselves in La Liga for a number of seasons.
However, that wealth of experience isn’t always what matters.
Real have some brilliant young attacking talent. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo have already shown what they can do in the famous white shirt, whilst Marco Asensio is always a name in the hat, despite his poor form over the last couple of seasons.
Takefusa Kubo and Gareth Bale have also just completed loan spells at Getafe and Tottenham respectively, too, and thus manager Carlo Ancelotti is spoiled for choice.
However, with Griezmann and Karim Benzema notable for being stalwarts of the league, whilst also combining well for France down the years, it would be ridiculous to pass up the chance of those two working together while throwing in some quintessential Eden Hazard magic.
