Real Madrid star Casemiro has been spotted on camera in training ahead of his imminent move to Manchester United. The Red Devils are poised to wrap up a £60million deal for the Brazil international. And Erik ten Hag is hopeful he can oversee an improvement in form, having endured a nightmare start to his stint at Old Trafford.

Until recently, Manchester United had been putting all their eggs in the Frenkie de Jong basket in the hope the 25-year-old could be persuaded to make the move to Old Trafford.

But with a deal for the 25-year-old now considered improbable, the Red Devils are poised to land Casemiro instead.

United are ready to pay £60m for the Brazil international, a fee that will make him the fifth most-expensive signing in the club’s entire history behind the likes of Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku and Jadon Sancho.

And, ahead of his expected move to Old Trafford, the Samba star has been put through his paces in Madrid training.

A video uploaded by Marca shows the 30-year-old with a big smile on his face while training alongside the likes of Dani Carvajal and other members of the squad.

Man Utd takeover: The Glazers have five reasons to sell Man Utd

It’s likely to be one of his last sessions for the club, amid speculation he’ll jet in to Manchester for a medical over the weekend.

Madrid are preparing for their La Liga clash with Celta Vigo on Saturday night as they look to make it two wins from two.

They were too strong for Algeria last time out, with Casemiro benched as they battled their way to a 2-1 win courtesy of goals from Lucas Vazquez and David Alaba.

United are next in action on Monday night against fierce rivals Liverpool in a fixture they can’t afford to lose.

Yet while they’d love Casemiro to be involved in that fixture, that’s unlikely to happen.

Casemiro is set to become United’s fourth signing of the summer, following Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen so far.

And the Red Devils aren’t done yet, with Ten Hag eyeing three other signings before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.

They want a back-up goalkeeper to provide competition for David De Gea, especially given the Spain international’s erratic form so far this season.

A new right-back is being eyed, too, with Barcelona’s Sergio Dest a target. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams may go before the deadline.

And United also want a new forward, too, with Jamie Vardy and even Danny Welbeck two potential options as they work on a limited budget.

In Casemiro, the Red Devils are signing a serial winner.

He’s won five Champions League titles during his glittering stint at Madrid, establishing himself as a Bernabeu legend in the process.

But Jamie Carragher, writing for The Telegraph, has branded it ‘embarrassing’ the Red Devils are going for the Brazilian having pulled out of a deal for Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot.

“If you are a club like United, you should not be pulling out of transfers — after agreeing a fee with the selling team — due to wage demands,” he said, referring to the Rabiot deal.

“Someone at the club should already know what sort of salary the player wants, long before it reaches this point.

“They have also spent weeks chasing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, and now they are running around trying to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.

“From De Jong, to Rabiot, to Casemiro. They are all different players with different styles and ages. What is the plan here? Where is the strategy? It is embarrassing.

“Erik ten Hag will want his own players, of course, and so far this summer United have backed him in the moves for Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia.

“I understand that, because it is hard to say no to a new manager when he has just been appointed, but the desperation at this stage of the transfer window is another sign of the problems within the club.

“It is like watching Supermarket Sweep.”
