Real Madrid 'could sell Hazard to fund Mbappe and Haaland transfers'

Real Madrid ‘could sell under-fire star Eden Hazard to help fund transfers for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland’ as the club no longer see him as an ‘untouchable asset’ two years after his £90m move from Chelsea

Real Madrid could reportedly sell Eden Hazard in order to fund transfers for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

The Belgian superstar has struggled to impress ever since his £90m move from Chelsea in 2019 and has been plagued with injuries.

He also found himself in hot water this past week after he was pictured laughing and joking with his former Chelsea team-mates, just moments after they knocked Real Madrid out of the Champions League.

Football Espana have reported that Los Blancos no longer consider Hazard to be an ‘untouchable asset’ and could be a ‘casualty in their rebuilding project’.

Their issues with Hazard also coincide with their interest in landing two of the most-wanted players in world football in Paris Saint-Germain star Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s lethal striker Haaland.

It’s said that Real Madrid could look to sell Hazard to help fund transfers for both players

Madrid though won’t actively put Hazard on the market but they will listen if any interested parties get in touch.

One key factor that could influence Madrid’s decision on Hazard, is the future of manager Zinedine Zidane.

The French legend is a huge backer of Hazard, and should he leave the club then it could also open the door for the Belgian to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos also have eyes on landing World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe from PSG

Madrid though could be forced into making a loss on the fee they paid for Hazard in 2019.

The 30-year-old currently earns €15m per year, and has three years left on his contract so convincing him to accept a significant reduction elsewhere could also prove challenging.

Hazard received a lot of criticism from the Spanish press after laughing with Chelsea players following Real Madrid’s 3-1 aggregate defeat.

‘He can’t stay a minute more at Real Madrid!’ said the presenter of Spain’s late night football show El Chiringuito.

Marca and AS both gave him no mark in their ratings and one columnist said: ‘Zidane stubbornly insisted on making him a starter, and he repaid him with a lamentable performance.’

Hazard has since taken to Instagram to issue an apology, saying it wasn’t his ‘intention to offend Real Madrid fans’ and that it is a ‘dream’ to play for the club.

The Real Madrid star said: ‘I am sorry. I have read a lot of opinions about me today and it wasn’t my intention to offend Real Madrid fans.

Hazard took to Instagram to apologise for his actions after Real Madrid’s defeat to Chelsea

‘It has always been my dream to play for Real Madrid and I came here to win.

‘The season is not over and together we must now battle for La Liga. Hala Madrid!’

The incident marked something of a breaking point for the forward, who has endured a miserable spell since arriving at the Bernabeu in June 2019.

Real Madrid fans were not only disappointed by his actions off the pitch, but his performance on the pitch as well.

Having been fit for just 755 minutes of Champions League football this season, fans were hoping the return of the talisman to the squad would be inspired and help their side reach yet another European final.

However, the striker did little to impress and was hooked off in the later stages of the game.

As a result, now both Madrid supporters and the Spanish media appear to be turning on the star – who was seen to be the man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo when he joined the club.
