Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed his magnificent effort to contact his players after a Covid outbreak at the club.

The Red Devils were forced to close their Carrington training ground and cancel fixtures with Brentford and Brighton after a number of players and staff tested positive earlier this month.

However, there was no let up for the United stars barred from the training ground, who were instructed to 'work from home' and keep training to a tight schedule.

In total, Rangnick claims he reached out to 16 or 17 players to check how they were holding up with either Covid or isolation.

“Obviously we couldn’t train, so I spoke with most of the players who were either in isolation or positively tested,” Rangnick explained to reporters.

“I spoke with 16 or 17 players individually over the phone to hear how they are and how they were feeling.”

Rangnick also shed a little more light on how those who had been told to stay at home were faring.

“As far as I could see from training, they’re all in good shape, they all did their homework,” Rangnick added.

“They had their schedule to train at home and they stuck to that schedule.

"Physically they look good [and] they had a very intense training session [when they came back to Carrington].”

The training ground closure was also a golden chance for Rangnick and his staff to prepare for future fixtures.

The German continued: “We, as a coaching staff, did a lot of work together [while Carrington was closed] preparing video footage and we started to show this video footage to them [on] Tuesday and for the following two days,” Rangnick said last Thursday.

“We’ll follow up on that tomorrow and on Sunday because it’s important that they really know what it’s about, how we should play, [and] how to find the best possible balance of playing offensively and making use of the offensive players we have, but at the same time being able to defend and make sure that we get further clean sheets.”
