Steven Gerrard has hinted to Rangers fans that a transfer is on the way. It has been a rollercoaster start to the season but the Liverpool legend has confidence over the rest of the summer window.

Rangers boss Gerrard has teased a potential transfer in the next 48 hours before their next match this week.

The Scottish outfit have failed to splash any cash this summer and have acted more frugally so far.

They have opted to bring in players on free transfers rather than spend money.

While outgoings have been tough, too, with just George Edmundson and Jordan Jones on the way out to Ipswich and Wigan Athletic respectively.

Fashion Sakala has moved to Ibrox from KV Oostende on a free transfer, as well as Nnamdi Ofoborh and John Lundtsram from Bournemouth and Sheffield United.

Other than that, it has been all quiet in the blue half of Glasgow despite the ongoing speculation over Alfredo Morelos.

But Gerrard has shattered that by admitting a player could be on the way very soon.

“We’re trying to make an addition in midfield,” the Liverpool legend said.

“The progress is really good, it’s strong, I’m hoping to have some news in the coming days.

“We might have something to say by Thursday’s game.”

Rangers take on Armenian outfit Alashkert in a play-off to reach the Europa League on Thursday with the first leg going ahead at Ibrox.

It comes after a shoddy fall from the Champions League following a defeat to Malmo.

They lost 2-1 to the Swedish side at home last week despite them being a man down and Gerrard was less than pleased.

“We did really well for 45 minutes, but we got two restarts badly wrong and paid for it,” the manager said.

“The most frustrating part is we’ve lost the second half to 10 men. To be 1-0 up and then go 2-1 down, a bit of fear and panic set in. We’ve got the second-half performance wrong and that’s on all of us.

“We’ve lost three games out of four and, at Rangers, that’s not good enough.”
