Aaron Ramsey has finally ended his Juventus nightmare by signing for French club Nice on a free transfer.

The Welsh midfielder terminated his contract with the Old Lady despite still having a year left on his contract in Turin. And after spending last season on loan at Rangers, the ex-Arsenal star has decided it’s time for a new challenge.

Ramey is said to have attracted interest from MLS side Charlotte FC, who were keen to make the Welshman their highest paid star. But the 31-year-old turned down the opportunity to follow compatriot Gareth Bale in moving to America this summer.

Instead, the three-time FA Cup winner will join Ligue 1 side Nice, who finished fifth last season and will compete in the Europa Conference League this campaign. Ramsey announced his arrival by tweeting in French: “A new chapter with Nice,” before adding in English: “Can’t wait to get started.”

The central-midfielder’s move is understood to have come as a result of his desire to play regular football in the lead up to the World Cup in Qatar later this year. He will be joined by fellow Wales international Joe Rodon in Nice, with the centre-back being signed on loan from Tottenham.

Ramsey will be hoping to end a torrid few seasons at club level. The playmaker signed for Juventus ahead of the 2019/20 season but had his progress halted by injury and too many midfielders to compete with.

He made just three Serie A appearances in his third and final season last campaign before securing a loan move to Rangers. He played a bigger role in Glasgow but missed the crucial Europa League final penalty which cost his side the trophy.
