PSG Women concede comical goal to leave fans "crying real tears"

Paris Saint-Germain Women conceded a comical own goal that left fans perplexed in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Lyon.

PSG took the lead in the contest after six minutes but were pegged back by goals from Wendie Renard and Catarina Macario. That's how it remained until five minutes after half-time when the PSG defence got themselves into all sorts of trouble.

Defender Paulina Dudek intercepted a Lyon attack and played the ball back to her goalkeeper Barbora Votikova. Realising the shot stopper could not pick up the backpass, Dudek followed the ball back, creating all sorts of confusion.

The two players got in each others way, and both missed the ball, which rolled slowly towards the goal. With the presence of mind that she could not pick the ball up, Votikova attempted to control it on the goal line but got it stuck under her feet.

That allowed Macario to steal in and score her second goal as Votikova tried in vain to clear the ball. As the Brazilian forward ran off to celebrate, Votikova and Dudek were left to remonstrate at the calamity that had just unfolded.

Football fans on Twitter couldn't quite believe the incident, with one tweeting: "Crying real tears." Someone else said: "Can’t stop watching this. Like a nightmarish version (yes) of what Steffen did against Liverpool."

A third person asked: "How is this real lol." While another Twitter user commented: "That has to be the most comical goal i've ever seen in my life."

Despite the catastrophic error, PSG hit back again just minutes later with Dudek, who was at fault for the goal, finding the net from the penalty spot.

It leaves the tie finely poised ahead of next weekend's second leg at Parc des Princes, with the winner set to face either Barcelona or Wolfsburg in the final.
