Sergio Rico’s wife has opened up on her experiences in the immediate aftermath of the Paris Saint-German star accident earlier this year.
The Spanish goalkeeper endured a serious head injury earlier this year in May, and suffered further injury to his neck and back as he was trampled after an accident while out horse riding.
He was taken to a hospital facility near Sevilla, and spent 36 days in intensive care as medical staff tried to safe his life following the freak accident.
After his release in late August, he thanked doctors for saving his life, but singled out his wife Alba Silva for her dedication in his hours of need.
Now, as part of Spanish TV show ‘WAGS. They also play’ she has opened up on her own account of that time, having learned of the accident through her sister, Maca.

‘It’s amazing how life can change your life in a matter of seconds,’ he said.
She added: ‘When I got there I found Sergio on the ground and I got nervous. They didn’t let me get close to him. We went behind because they wouldn’t let me go with him.
‘In the ambulance and we went to the mobile hospital unit that they had set up in El Rocío. The only thing I wanted to think was that it hadn’t been that serious.
‘They called us doctors because there were complications. I don’t want to remember it because they were the hardest moments of my life. My soul was in suspense.’
Although she was informed by medical professionals that her husband could be facing a fight for his life, she was confident that she would not be left without him.
After his arrival at the hospital he underwent surgery for a suspected brain aneurysm, and was also put into a medically-induced coma for 22 days.
Following the injury, tributes were paid to Rico by his PSG team-mates, with a giant tifo of his shirt passed around the Parc des Princes by the Parisian crowd.
‘I feel quite well,’ Rico told reporters outside the Seville-based hospital on his releas.

‘I wanted to say a few words to thank my family and my wife. I wanted to thank the football world that has sent me messages of support.
‘Everyone who has stopped for a minute to give me support, I thank them. Also, of course, the staff of the Hospital Virgen del Rocio, who are professionals of the highest order.’
Rico came through the academy at Sevilla before spending spells on loan at Fulham in the Premier League, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, before joining the French side on a permanent basis.
He has won a single cap for La Roja, playing 16 minutes of a 6-1 friendly win over South Kore back in 2016.
