Premier League to contest FIFA ruling as Man Utd and Liverpool set to miss stars
The Premier League plan to contest FIFA's decision to suspend Brazilian players for this weekend's round of fixtures, according to reports.
A number of English top-flight clubs decided not to send their players away on international duty last week because of fears over quarantine regulations.
Several Brazil stars therefore pulled out of their squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile, Argentina and Peru, including Chelsea defender Thiago Silva and Manchester United midfielder Fred.
This left the Brazilian FA furious, meaning they decided to trigger a 'five-day' FIFA ruling that will prevent the players in question from competing at club level this weekend.
Along with Silva and Fred, Liverpool trio Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino are all unavailable from September 10-14, as are Manchester City duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus.
Leeds are also set to be without Raphinha when they go away to Leeds on Sunday.
Silva and Fred will also miss Chelsea and United's opening Champions League group-stage fixtures on Tuesday.

However, Goal are reporting that Premier League officials will lobby against FIFA's ruling ahead of this weekend's matches.
The English top flight hope they will be able to resolve the matter with world football's governing body and allow some of their high-profile stars to compete in the latest round of fixtures.

Not all Brazil players who didn't travel for international duty are suspended, nevertheless.
The Times claim Richarlison will be free to play for Everton this weekend because Brazil waived their right to ask for him to be suspended.
It is believed the Toffees' decision to release him for international duty at the Olympics over the summer influenced Brazil's decision.

As well as the Brazilian FA, Chile, Mexico and Paraguay have asked FIFA to impose similar restrictions over the weekend.
The five-day rule is designed to protect international sides from unnecessary withdrawals, and should clubs refuse to adhere to it then Article 22 of FIFA's disciplinary code states they will forfeit any match in which an ineligible player has appeared.
