Premier League flop puts head in hands after ‘one of worst misses ever seen’
Ajax winger Steven Berghuis had his head in his hands after producing "one of the worst misses ever seen".
The 31-year-old, who made just nine Premier League appearances for Watford after signing for £4.6million in the summer of 2015, looked to have the simplest of chances to put his Eredivisie side 3-1 up against Zwolle on Sunday (December 17).
He was inside the six yard box with an open goal as the ball rolled across to him – but rather then turn it into the empty net first time, Berghuis opted to take a touch with his left foot which he misjudged.

It bounced away and he couldn't hide his frustration, briefly putting his hands on his head before regaining possession. His blushes were somewhat spared by the linesman raising the offside flag.
But fans still mocked him on social media, with one posting a clip of his blunder with the caption: "Berghuis with one of the worst misses you'll ever see."
"My two-year-old baby would have scored this," argued a second, while a third questioned: "Why does he wanna have a touch?

A fourth exclaimed: "That’s a bad one. Especially as he’s left footed as well." While a fifth joked: "Fine him a months wages." And a sixth added: "Ajax's season in a nutshell."
To add insult to injury, Zwolle scored an 89th-minute equaliser. Ajax, the Netherlands' most successful club, had a nightmare start to their 2023/24 campaign, languishing in the relegation zone.
They've managed to turn the tide in recent weeks and have just just once in their last eight games across all competitions. But they're still 23 points off league leaders PSV in fifth, and have dropped down out of the Europa League and into the Europa Conference League play-off round.
