Premier League clubs fear Christmas lockdown at grounds even for vaccinated fans
Premier League clubs are currently fearing a Christmas lockdown at their stadiums, even for supporters that have already been vaccinated.
With cases of the Omicron variant rising in the UK, the government could choose to impose fresh restrictions, starting with Covid passports at large events.
This would mean unvaccinated fans would be unable to attend matches in the Premier League, with fears it could later be expanding to ban all fans from attending.
This would see a return to Premier League matches being played behind closed doors, as they were for almost the entirety of the last season and a half.
The Sun report that top flight clubs were briefed on the worsening situation on Friday and told to prepare for the likelihood of Plan B restrictions.
One club chief reportedly said: “Privately every club is talking about this. We are all concerned about what might happen next.”
The need for vaccine passports could see fans unable to attend matches that they have already paid to see.
Clubs are understood to have been working with the possibility that Covid passports would not be required for another few months.

Fears amongst clubs have increased in recent days after Tottenham Hotspur reported nine positive test results earlier this week, including seven players.
This could lead to the postponement of their next three matches, with the club considering making a request to call off their trip to Brighton on Sunday.
In addition to the outbreak at Spurs, Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic and Brentford striker Ivan Toney are both currently out of action due to Covid.
Premier League clubs lost a combined £2billion due to restrictions in the last two seasons, with Spurs and Manchester United the worst hit after losing a reported £6million per match without fans.
