Pochettino one of four managers on Real Madrid shortlist to replace Zidane

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has emerged as one of the favourites to become Real Madrid manager.

The PSG manager has been linked away with a move away from the Parc de Princes in recent weeks, specifically with the vacant Spurs post.

However, Los Blancos chief Florentino Perez could swoop in to snatch the Argentine from underneath Daniel Levy’s nose.

According to COPE, Pochettino is one of four contenders for Madrid job, if current boss Zinedine Zidane leaves as he is expected to.

Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is also on the shortlist, along with ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and Madrid icon Raul.

Conte won Serie A with Inter Milan this month, but agreed to leave the San Siro just two days ago amid reports of financial troubles at the club.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso could return to the Bernabeu, having enjoyed a successful start to his coaching career at Real Sociedad B, winning promotion to Segunda Division.

The Spanish World Cup winner signed a one-year extension in March despite rumours linking him to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, but an offer from Los Blancos might be too good to turn down.

Meanwhile, the favourite for the managerial post continues to be Madrid legend Raul, who spent 18 years in the Spanish capital before moving to Germany.

The 43-year-old broke every record in the book during his time at the Bernabeu, and currently leads Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, in the lower echelons of the Spanish league.
