Gerard Pique asked Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales to move a Spain game so he could watch a tennis match, according to reports in Spain.

The news comes days after leaked audio revealed Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos asked Rubiales for help to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

And according to El Confidencial, Barcelona icon Pique tried to alter the calendar of the international team so he could attend a Davis Cup match with then-girlfriend and pop star Shakira in 2019.

However, the game ended up being played on the Monday as planned. Spain won 5-0 against Romania, with Pique not involved in the squad.

Pique seemingly said: ‘Rubi, we have to speak about an issue that is very important for me and you need to do me this favour one way or another. I will explain. I can see that there is a match, which is Spain-Romania… on Monday the 18th of November.

‘Monday the 18th of November the Davis Cup starts in Madrid, as well. Shakira will do the inauguration, my partner will sing, we will put on a insane show, in the afternoon there will be matches.’

‘Of course, if that same match between Spain and Romania at the Wanda is also on, we are cannibalising each other, we ruin each other. I don’t know what the calendar before is, I don’t know if it can be moved to Sunday, which would be perfect.

Barcelona and Spain icon Gerard Pique (above) reportedly asked Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales to move a Spain international game so he could watch a Davis Cup tennis match – the game against Romania went ahead on the day originally planned, with Spain winning 5-0

The news comes days after leaked audio revealed Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos personally asked Rubiales (pictured) for help to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or award

‘I don’t know if you play Friday or Thursday… Let’s look at the calendar issue, but I know that you still haven’t started selling tickets and it would be possible to move it, therefore, let’s look at (it).’

Pique, 35, is the founder of Kosmos, which organises the Davis Cup competition, hence his interest in being involved.

Rubiales supposedly responded: ‘Ok I will look to see if it is possible, I don’t know if it is possible, but if it is possible, we will try it.’

Sportsmail reported on Wednesday that leaked audio showed Ramos talking to Rubiales to get his help in winning the 2020 Ballon d’Or, which was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic but was expected to go to Robert Lewandowski.

The audio apparently shows Pique asking for the game to be moved so he could attend the Davis Cup with then-girlfriend, pop star Shakira (pictured left) – the pair have now broken up

He had said: ‘You know that I’ve never asked you for anything but if I want to do it today it’s because I think this has been a special year for the performances I’ve delivered.

‘I would like you to help me in whatever way you can and use your connections at UEFA linked to the Ballon d’Or. I would be grateful to you all my life, not only for me but also because I think Spanish football deserves it very much.’

Rubiales replied that Ramos deserved to win the Ballon d’Or and wished him luck for the upcoming Champions League campaign, according to Mundo Deportivo. He added that while he didn’t decide the award, he would help in any way he could.

More reported leaks in April seemingly revealed the pair’s intention to take the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia and showed Pique asking  Rubiales to help him play at the Olympic Games in 2020, despite having retired from Spain duty.
