Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes Arsenal vow to fans as he opens up on reason for absences

Arsenal: Arteta provides Aubameyang update

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has explained why he has missed the last two matches. Aubameyang was set to feature in the FA Cup fourth round clash at Southampton on Saturday, but ended up missing the match due to personal issues. The Gabon international was again absent for the Premier League trip to St Mary’s on Tuesday.

And Aubameyang has now revealed that the reason for not playing is that his mother has had health problems in the last few days.

The striker says his mother’s health has improved and he is set to return home on Wednesday evening.

He also had a message for the Arsenal fans, promising to help continue the side’s recent good form upon his return.

Aubameyang wrote on his social media: “Hey guys.

“Thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days.

“My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight. I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping get her through this.

“And of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

“Thank you all again – I really am beyond blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back.

“- PEA.”

However, Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back by defeating Saints 3-1 in the Premier League on Tuesday.

Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette celebrated their goals with messages of support to Aubameyang.

Speaking after the match, Arteta was not sure when Aubameyang would return to action.

Arteta said: “No [there’s no update] but I love how they support each other and how they protect each other.

“Auba is having a difficult time. We are all behind him and this win is for him.”

Arsenal will be hopeful of having Aubameyang back for Saturday’s clash against high-flying Manchester United at the Emirates.

Arteta’s side are unbeaten in their last six Premier League matches, winning five of them.

Martin Odegaard could make his Gunners debut against the Red Devils after completing his loan move from Real Madrid on Wednesday.
