Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals he missed win over Southampton to care for his unwell mother as Arsenal striker thanks team-mates and fans for support

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he missed Arsenal’s win over Southampton to care for his ill mother. 

At the time, the striker’s absence was described as being for personal reasons, with Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette dedicating their goals to him in a 3-1 win. 

Aubameyang has taken to social media to give thanks for the supportive messages and shed light on his situation. 

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the Southampton game as his mother is unwell 

The Arsenal striker shared this message on social media to explain the situation 

He wrote: ‘Hey guys, thank you so much for all the messages and calls over the last few days. 

‘My mother is going through some health issues and I had to be there for her. She’s already much better now and I will be back home tonight. 

‘I’m more than grateful to the doctors and nurses helping her get through this. 

‘And of course, thanks to my Arsenal fam for the love yesterday! I’m more determined than ever to keep our momentum going!

‘Thank you all again – I really am blessed to receive this level of support and love from all of you and I can’t wait to be back. PEA.’

Pepe and Lacazette scored Arsenal’s first and third goals on the south coast, which moved the Gunners up to eighth in the table. 

Both of Arsenal’s attackers shared messages of support to Aubameyang on social media following the victory.

Pepe posted a picture of his celebration after his early opener on Instagram with the caption: ‘For my brother. @auba.’

Lacazette shared an image of him holding up both hands to signal No 14 – the shirt worn by Aubameyang – in celebration of his 10th goal of the season. 

Aubameyang will be looking to get back in the thick of things when Arsenal take on Manchester United this Saturday.  

Mikel Arteta’s side managed well in Aubameyang’s absence and secured a 3-1 victory
