Phil Jones in talks to finally leave Manchester United

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is in talks to join Bordeaux on loan for the remainder of the season.

The defender made his long-awaited return to first team action earlier this month and was United’s best performer in a 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

That was Jones’ first start in nearly two years in the Premier League and the defender is keen to continue his recovery from his injury torment by playing again.

However, competition is fierce for places at centre-back at Old Trafford and Jones is fifth in line behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Eric Bailly.

And, after speaking to Ralf Rangnick about his future, Jones was told the likelyhood of him featuring in the remainder of the season would be slim.

The defender was therefore given permission to seek a loan move elsewhere and Bordeaux are in talks to sign the defender.

Jones joined United in 2011 in a £16.5m deal from Blackburn, with United beating every top club in England to the defender’s signature.

Sir Alex Ferguson once tipped Jones to become the club’s ‘best ever player’ but injuries have blighted his career.
