Peter Crouch’s brilliant blunt analysis sums up Barca after Champs League exit

Peter Crouch absolutely savaged Barcelona with a brutal one-word line during coverage of their 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Barca were dumped out of the Champions League at the group stage for the first time in over 20 years after being completely played off the park by the German giants in Munich.

Crouch, who was covering the game as a pundit for BT Sports, was asked at the break whether he thought Xavi's side – who were 2-0 down at the time – had a chance of getting back into the game.

"Um … no," he said before a sniggering Joe Cole made him laugh.

"Well there you go you've answered the question," replied host Seema Jaswal.

Crouch's response painted a picture for anyone who missed the game. Bayern were superior in almost every way, and the gulf in class between the two sides was all too evident after just 45 minutes.

Goals from Thomas Muller and Leroy Sane pretty much put the game bed in the first half before Jamal Musiala completely the drubbing by adding a third with half-an-hour left to play.

Barca's inadequacies weren't for the want of trying, though. Xavi spent much of the game barking orders telling his side to press and to defend high – just like the Barcelona of old.

But a well-drilled, supremely confident Bayern side simply played through them, at jogging pace no less.

Perhaps most concerning for Barca is the fact that nothing was on the line for the German champions.

A comfortable defeat might have made sense if Bayern needed to top the group, but Julian Nagelsmann's side had won five out of five heading into tonight's fixture.

Make that six out of six.

Barca will now see out the season playing in the Europa League after Benfica finished above them in second to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Remarkably, the last time the Catalan club were in Europe's secondary cup competition was in 2004. They were knocked out by Celtic in the UEFA Cup fourth round in a game current boss Xavi featured in.
