West Ham legend Paulo di Canio claims Chelsea were ‘wounded’ by Manchester City at the weekend and believes Juventus can get a result against Thomas Tuchel’s side on Wednesday. Chelsea’s impressive start to the season was dealt a blow when they were beaten 1-0 by Premier League champions City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus’ deflected strike proved to be the difference between the two sides as Chelsea suffered their first league defeat of the campaign.

The Champions League holders travel to Turin to face Juventus on Wednesday as favourites, but di Canio thinks the Old Lady have a chance.

Juventus will face a wounded Chelsea after their defeat against Manchester City but they are no less aware of their strength,” Di Canio told Italian media outlet Tuttosport.

“For the Bianconeri, it will be tough but it won’t be easy for Chelsea as well, as Juventus are getting more consistent.

“They can achieve a result and even a draw could be good because it would put pressure on Chelsea.”

Tuchel’s side come into the contest after having earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Russian champions Zenit in their group stage opener.

Romelu Lukaku’s 69th minute goal was enough to earn Chelsea all three points at Stamford Bridge.

Juventus also got off to a good start in this season’s competition thanks to a 3-0 win against Swedish champions Malmo at the Eleda Stadion.

The Italian giants had the game wrapped up by half-time thanks to goals from full-back Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and former Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata.

Meanwhile, after a difficult start to their Serie A campaign, Massimiliano Allegri’s team are slowing beginning to turn their fortunes around.

Juve have won their last two league games 3-2 against Spezia and Sampdoria respectively, but they remain in tenth place in Serie A, and ten points off leaders Napoli.

However, Dybala and Morata will both miss the game for Juventus after being forced off in the recent win.

Argentine Dybala suffered a thigh injury and was withdrawn in tears, while Morata was substituted with eight minutes remaining.

Juventus boss Allegri confirmed both will miss the Champions League fixture and the derby match against Torino at the weekend.

They will be neither against Chelsea nor Torino,” he told Sky in Italy.

“After the derby there will be a break, we hope to have them after the break.

“This is part of the season. Now it happens to us then, later on, it will happen to someone else. It’s part of the game. You have to be good at playing these games even with absent players.”

Chelsea have their own fitness concerns with N’golo Kante set to miss the game through illness, while Reece James was forced off with a twisted ankle in the defeat to City.

“He twisted his ankle and it was very painful for him. I have no other news on him at this stage but let’s see how he is in the next few days,” Tuchel said.

After their European contest in midweek, Chelsea will face Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Tuchel will be hoping for a better performance than the one against the champions last weekend.
