Former Chelsea star Willian's family afraid to leave house after threats

Willian and his family are concerned for their safety in Brazil thanks to threats they received after Corinthians suffered a shock defeat earlier this month.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal man is now playing for Corinthians back in his native Brazil, but his family are reportedly considering leaving the country again due to fears for their own safety.

Corinthians were beaten by Bolivian side Always Ready in the CONMEBOL Libertadores earlier this month and police were forced to investigate after threats were made to a number of players after the match, including Willian and his family.

ESPN report that the Brazil international’s daughters are afraid to go to school, while his wife is staying inside at home unless she absolutely has to leave.

Willian has continued training with Corinthians, but is travelling there with a security guard.

The report states that Willian is keen to stay with Corinthians, having moved to the club from Arsenal last year.

However, he is now more likely to move away from Brazil in the summer if his family continue to feel unsafe at home.

Willian returned to Corinthians, the club at which he started his professional career, in August 2021 after a time to forget at Arsenal.

The current Brazilian Serie A season has only just started, with Corinthians winning both of their two league games so far after that disappointment against the Bolivian side.
