Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is now open to staying at the club beyond the end of his contract, according to reports. However, the Frenchman now must convince the club that he is deserving of a new deal. Pogba’s current contract expires at the end of June.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move to sign Pogba on a free transfer.

His agent Mino Raiola has previously claimed the 28-year-old wants a fresh challenge away from United.

Pogba impressed for the Red Devils in their 1-1 draw at home to Southampton on Saturday.

He has now started three matches in a row after three months out with a thigh injury.

Pogba leaving the club for nothing appeared to be inevitable.

However, The Sun now claims he is showing signs that he wants to extend his contract.

Pogba remains United’s most-expensive signing of all time following his £89million return in 2016.

His return to fitness will be a boost in the club’s hopes of finishing in the Premier League top four this season.

That being said, United have failed to win the three matches since Pogba has come back into the side.

The Sun says the France star will not just be handed a new contract if he decides he wants to stay.

Pogba must prove to the club he warrants the demands he and Raiola are setting.

What Pogba’s best position is has been one of the big conundrums for previous bosses Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But United interim manager Ralf Rangnick reckons he has cracked it.

He said of Pogba earlier this month: “I see his best possible position for me as one of the central midfield positions as either an eight or 10 but the way we’re currently playing I’d rather see him in the 8 position but we’ll have to see. “

Rangnick insists Pogba will want to perform at his best for the remainder of the season, whether that is to get a new contract at United or to attract potential interest from elsewhere.

He added: “It’s up to him now, his contract is expiring in the summer and if in the end he would like to stay or go somewhere else he has to show up.

“It’s not only in the interest for us as a club but it’s in his personal interest that he plays and performs at the highest possible level in the next couple of weeks.”
