Paul Pogba claims he has been the target of an armed gang's multi-million pound extortion plot after his sibling Mathias posted a video online promising "revelations".

According to news agency AFP, French police have opened an investigation with the former Manchester United midfielder into an alleged €13million (£11m) blackmail attempt. Today a statement was issued on behalf of Paul Pogba, his mother Yeo Moriba and his lawyer Rafaela Pimenta.

The statement said: "Mathias Pogba's recent statements on social media are unfortunately no surprise. They are in addition to threats and group-organised extortion attempts against Paul Pogba.

The statement continued: "The relevant authorities in Italy and France were contacted a month ago and there will be no further comments in relation to the ongoing investigation."

Pogba re-joined Juventus on a free transfer in the summer, but is currently sidelined through injury.

The 29-year-old made Pimenta his primary representative following the passing of Mino Raiola.

Mathias Pogba had cryptically said that "the French, Italian and English public, my brother's fans, and even more the French national team, the Juventus team, my brother’s teammates and his sponsors deserve to know certain things".

The statement comes after reports in France said Pogba had been the victim of threats and attempted extortion from some of his childhood friends.

Pogba is said to have confided in the Central Office for the Fight against Organised Crime after being "trapped by childhood friends and two hooded men armed with assault rifles".

The gang are said to have 13 million euros of his money after he was "dragged to an apartment in Paris" and blamed for not helping out his friends financially.

Pogba claims he has provided financial support but stopped doing so in January after a friend "stole 200,000 euros" using his credit card in Manchester.
