Owen Hargreaves details Man Utd improvement despite West Brom setback

Manchester United should remain upbeat given their lofty league position despite dropping more points at the weekend according to Owen Hargreaves.

The Red Devils were forced to settle for a point against relegation strugglers West Brom on Sunday.

It now means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team have only won two of their last seven in the league.

The Red Devils had hopes of pushing for the title at the turn of the year, but that now looks to be beyond them.

Nevertheless, given their fortunes in recent years, Hargreaves believes they can take plenty of comfort from sitting second.

"Hugely disappointing [result] for United just because I think West Brom deserved at least a point from the game," he told Premier League Productions.

"You’d have thought United playing against a team in that position that they’d blow them away and they didn’t.

"Credit Sam Allardyce the way that he set them up they were a bit more positive.

"Diagne had a couple of chance in that second half where they probably could have even nicked the game I think for Solskjaer he’ll be disappointed that they didn’t win the game

"But they’re still up into second place which is a big improvement from where they’ve been in the past few years.

"They [United] huffed and puffed, Mason Greenwood came on who I thought looked really good.

"United had chances but so did West Brom going the other way. I thought there was good chances in the game from both teams."

United's impressive finish last term saw them end up in third having previously missed out on the top four.

A poor summer of recruitment and a lacklustre start to the season saw United come in for harsh criticism.

But a run of 13 games unbeaten saw them rise up the league and they again looked placed to secure a top four spot.
