Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he will “have to find a solution for next year” in regard to the club’s goalkeeping situation. Both Dean Henderson and David de Gea have been given opportunities in between the sticks this season.
De Gea started the campaign as United’s first-choice goalkeeper but, after returning home to Spain for the birth of his child, he lost that spot to Henderson.
However, after conceding four against Liverpool, De Gea was restored to the starting XI to face Fulham and he also looks set to start the Europa League final.
There has been speculation about the futures of both De Gea and Henderson and Solskjaer has hinted he will make a decision ahead of next season about who will be his long-term number one.
“It’s been a strange season with regards to goalkeeping,” he said.

“At United most of the time we’ve had a No. 1 who has been playing most of the games.
“We brought Dean back to challenge David and he’s had a very good season.
“David flew home for the birth of his baby which gave Dean a longer run in the team and he really played well and established himself as a very good goalkeeper.
“He’s learnt a lot from it.

“But David is David. He’s really played well, buckled down and really taken on the challenge.
“I’m really pleased with the two of them, it’s difficult to have that kind of rotation, you don’t rotate that much normally, I’ll have to find a solution for next year definitely.”
Former United captain Roy Keane recently expressed concerns over Henderson’s “presence” in goal, telling Sky Sports: “He looks so small in the goals, that’s my worry [over] Henderson.
“He has a good mentality, good temperament and is good with his feet, but I’ve seen a few goals go in recently where he looks so small in the goals.
“Tonight he may look at it and go “it’s not my best night”, but he needs a run of games.
“They can’t go back to De Gea, I don’t think that’s the final answer either.
“He [Henderson] is going to make mistakes of course, but my worry is his presence.
“He looks so small, which is a big concern going forward.”
