Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has given some transfer advice to his old team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over what to do with Jesse Lingard. The England international has been in the form of his life since moving to West Ham on loan in January.
Solskjaer has been told what to do with Lingard after an incredible stretch of form for West Ham.
It comes after the midfielder swapped life in Manchester for London on loan until the end of the season.
And that has turned out to be an inspired decision from the Hammers, who are reaping the rewards with Lingard in the form of his life.
In nine Premier League appearances, he has scored eight and assisted three as David Moyes guns down a Champions League spot in one of the best seasons in history for the east London side.
It has led to talk that West Ham will make his loan permanent but they will face a tricky United in the transfer market.
With every performance, the asking price is shooting up for the 27-year-old.
But Scholes has told Solskjaer not to sell Lingard, whose form has earned him a recall to the England team and now looks likely to go to the Euros this summer.
He told talkSPORT: “He’d had a tough time at United and I think that was all from bringing Bruno Fernandes in.
“They are players in similiar positions and you couldn’t argue with what Bruno has done.
“Jesse needed to play football – he needed a chance – and West Ham gave him that chance.
“I know the quality Jesse has. I worked with Jesse as an 18/19 year-old as a coach so I know the quality he possesses.
“His fitness was never going to be a problem even though he hadn’t played for a while, he’s so professional and so fit.
“He’s been sensational. For Ole, I think it would be great to have him back to give some competition to Bruno Fernandes.
“When he isn’t quite doing it we have a player in Jesse Lingard who is capable of reaching the same heights.
“His numbers since he’s been at West Ham have been just as good as Bruno, so it’s always healthy to have competition in the squad.
“Hopefully Jesse is ready for that and Ole wants him to do that as well.”
